The Badgers fought a good fight against the Wayne Bulldogs last Friday night in Elmore City. However, injuries and players having to substitute in other positions contributed to the ECP losing to Wayne, with a final score of 48 – 20.
Elmore City runningback Quinton Steaurt was forced to take over the quarterback position for the Badgers when Senior Zach Burkes was injured in last Thursday’s practice.
Dillon Medford also sustained an injury late in the second quarter, and was unable to return for the second half.
In the first quarter, Wayne’s Sam Martin scored on a 15 yard touchdown run with a complete field goal, good for seven points.
Martin also scored the second touchdown, though the extra point was no good.
Bulldog Kael Groff recovered a blocked punt and was able to run it in 13 yards for a touchdown.
On the next series for the Badgers, Quinton Steaurt threw a fifteen yard pass to Dillon Medford for a touchdown, leaving the score 20-6 after the first.
In the second quarter Medford caught a 52 yard pass good for a touchdown, though the Badgers were unable to capitalize on the two point conversion.
The Bulldog’s Louden Johnson rushed 35 yards for a touchdown, with Sam Martin adding the extra point.
Johnson also caught a 60 yard reception from Martin, for a touchdown with another extra point being added by Martin. This left the score at 34 – 12 going into the half.
In the third, Wayne’s Josh Way scored the only points for the Bulldogs with a 65 yard run touchdown and a 30 yard run for another six.
Both of Wayne’s extra point kicks were good as well, and with Medford out, the Badgers were unable to score in the third, bringing the score to 48 – 12.
Justin Sones of the Badgers was able to rush 70 yards for a touchdown in the final quarter. Sones also completed a two point conversion, leaving the final score 48 – 20.
This week, the Badgers will host the unranked Dibble Demons.
