Footloose and fancy free is on the minds of many Elmore City residents as they prepare for their annual Footloose Festival to take place down south Main Street on April 16th.

The day is packed full of events and excitement for all ages. The town has decided to combine the annual Spring Festival with the newly acquired Footloose Festival.

“We are really excited about this. Some towns have fruit festivals we have a Footloose Festival,” said Lisa Rollings, organizer of the event.

The day will start off with a pancake breakfast at the senior citizens center around 8 a.m. and over the course of the day there will be a free health fair sponsored by local hospitals.

Citizens are welcomed to come and get free blood pressure checks along with health advice.

There will also be a local art show. All local artists are encouraged to enter the show and let the community enjoy their work. All types of artwork is welcomed and there is no cost to enter.

The festivities also include dance competitions with prizes for the winners, a cake decorating contest, lawnmower races, a parade and several raffles.

There will be live music all day provided by Myra and Company along with karaoke. Parade participants and vendors are still needed; booth space and participating in the day’s events are free.

According to Rollings the festival will take a little break in the evening and resume for the street dance from 8 p.m. to midnight, with music provided by M&M Productions of Oklahoma City.

This year marks the 31st anniversary of the events that inspired the movie “Footloose” and gave this little town an infamous place in Hollywood history.
