Richelle Humphrey and the Garvin County News Star were notified Tuesday, May 22, they were the recipients of the Citizen and Corporate Citizen of the Year awards, the highest honors given by the Pauls Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Humphrey, a long time community volunteer, is the manager of Sharpe’s Department Store in Pauls Valley.

She is the past-president of the Pauls Valley Rotary Club and currently serves as the club’s treasurer.

“She has been a tireless fundraiser for this civic club,” one nomination form said.

She also is an active worker with the PV Samaritans and her church, the First United Methodist Church in Pauls Valley.

“She has tireless energy and is very community oriented,” said one person who nominated Humphrey for the honor.

Humphrey is known for her work with various youth organizations in Pauls Valley.

She has served on the Pauls Valley Foundation for Academic Excellence Board of Directors and has served as president of the Whitebead PTO.

She has been a T-Ball coach, camp counselor and Sunday School teacher.

“Unselfishly, she gives of herself to our community to maintain the caring and generous spirit that the citizen of Pauls Valley adhere to. Pauls Valley is blessed to have her,” said another person.

Humphrey joins other Citizen of the Year award winners including Brent Grimmett, the 2011 Citizen of the Year, and Billie Hays (2010), Cathy Agee (2009) and Jack Grimmett, Jr. (2008).

The Garvin County News Star was named the 2012 Corporate Citizen of the Year.

The News Star was selected for its dedication to the Chamber as well as other Chambers of Commerce in Garvin County.

Past Corporate Citizen of the Year winners include the Garvin County Community Living Center in 2011, L.A. Jacobson in 2010 and Walmart Distribution Center and the Walmart Supercenter in 2009.
