Colley Wallace

Colley Wallace was born September 28, 1945, in Casa Grande, Arizona, and went to be with the Lord in Maysville, Oklahoma, on December 31, 2023. He was the oldest son of LD Wallace and Lavern Wallace. Colley’s parents followed and harvested fruits and vegetables and moved a lot while he was growing up. The family settled in Oklahoma close to the Maysville area around 1963. He cut broomcorn and worked farm fields for Lloyd Morphew for around 13 years during the summers and at the cotton gin in Wayne, Oklahoma, in the winter, Perfection Hy-test for 20 years, worked with a home builder company for a few years and then Millers Farm Store for about five years. He always had a large garden from a young age. He loved working his garden and gave a lot of it away to family and friends. People would get a variety of vegetables throughout the summer, but when corn was ready it had to all get harvested in a short amount of time. Chris and Sherry White with Justin, Chris and Darci, Marvin and Melanie Williams with Samiyah and lots of others every year would come to get it when it was time, and most would be back when cantaloupes and watermelons would be ready.

He loved fishing and would go fishing at least once every two to three weekends during the summer until his thirties, then not quite as frequent. They would run trot lines using a boat. The largest fish they caught was a 42 pound catfish.

Lots of family members have lots of memories and stories of visiting when they lived out by Story, from him taking the kids “swimming” in the creek after a hard/flooding rain would happen, to picking up hay bales during the night, and I’d say more than one story that probably shouldn’t be retold here, but they all enjoyed it and enjoyed being together.

I can remember Mom and Dad making tamales, beef jerky and whenever Dad was wanting Mom to make something new he’d seen somewhere, he would supervise by “telling” her how she needed to be doing it.

He was lucky having his grandkids and great-grandkids living close to him and was able to be a big part of their lives in growing up. They all have a lot of special memories with him: Ashley at about 10 years old getting her leg stuck in a bicycle at their house and them having to call an ambulance to get it out; him teaching Blake how to drive a tractor and Blake and Skylar how to use a riding lawn mower; Blakleigh, Bentleigh, Gunner, and Grady going shopping and eating with them and having a good time playing outside when they were at the house with them; and he was at all of their sports games when he was able to go. He was Grandpa to many kids that they watched, and they knew he’d have some kind of treat for them every day, a piece of chocolate, cookies or chips.

He had some uniquely named pets at times, Fiesty, Ugly and Casper, and he loved dogs and had a lot during his life.

He loved watching old western movies and TV series, especially movies with Clint Eastwood in them and Gunsmoke, Bonanza and The Rifleman. You could never see them too many times. He always watched Sylvester Stallone and the James Bond movies and loved listening to Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard.

He is preceded in death by both parents, a daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Verna, of the home; sisters, Wanda Wallace of New Mexico and Betty Wallace of Wynnewood; brothers, David Wallace and wife, Lisa, and Steve Wallace and partner, Mary Beck; daughters, Tina Walker and partner, Eric Bascus, and Wendy Clifton and husband Mike; grandchildren, Ashley Tooley and husband, Clint, Blake Clifton and wife, Kaylie, and Skylar Walker; great-grandchildren, Clinton, Ethan, Madalyn, Blakleigh, Bentleigh, Tooley, and Gunner and Grady Clifton; great-great-granddaughters, Temperance, Stevie and Charlee; plus many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Abundant Love Fellowship in Maysville, Oklahoma. Burial followed at Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John W.
